About

The Otakuologist.com is for people who want to know more about otaku culture.  For most people out of Japan and other Asian countries, to be otaku means to be a fan of ACG… or Anime, Comics and Games.  Unfortunately it’s not so simple.

First of all, a true otaku takes something he likes to a whole other level.  The otaku doesn’t simply like something.  He or she is obsessed over it.  And it doesn’t just go for anime or manga either.  There is the densha otaku (not to be confused with Densha Otoko), or trainspotting otaku, aka tetsudou otaku.

There are cosplaying otaku, idoru otaku, figure otaku, if there’s a hobby in Japan, there’s an otaku for it.

One of my favorite and most moé otaku is an otakuologist in her own right, Nakagawa Shoko, or Shoko-tan as we like to call her.  She can explain the otaku mentality like no one can:

I hope that whet your appetite some.  Here is part two of the video:

Oh Shoko-tan.  You don’t realize it yet, but you are totally in love with me… :-*

So to recap, The Otakuologist.com is about otaku.  All kinds of otaku.  Of course since most of the media coverage of the otaku deals with Anime and manga and gaming otaku there will be more coverage of that.  But make no mistake, this site is for all otaku.  If you have any ideas for posting on this site, contact me for possibly guest posting here.
