The Otakuologist

For some reason I keep rehashing in my mind the movie “Kick-Ass“and while I liked the movie, I was rather disappointed in the film version of the popular comic book.

See, the point of the story in the comic book was that if a geek decided to put on a costume and fight crime, there’s a good chance that it wouldn’t always work out for the best.

There wouldn’t necessarily be a happy ending, such as our hero getting the girl and there was really no need for a sequel in the comic book.  Not only did Dave not get the girl, but wound up alienating himself from her.

Not so in the movie.  He got the girl and an archenemy.  In short, the movie became a typical comic book.

But that’s not what I want to talk about.  I want to talk about another comic book that I propose be made into a movie.

In 2002, a one shot called “The Pro” was released, depicting the story of a (ahem) lady of the night given superpowers by a being known as “The Viewer.”  The result being a foul mouthed hooker who when not fighting supervillains, augmented her income by performing super fast sex acts.

As long as we’re going for… er… realism here, why not put “The Pro” on the screen?  That would be an awesome movie.

There was talk about a live action adaptation back in 2007 I believe, with either Sarah Silverman or Ellen Muth as the main character.  Personally I’d back Muth as the lead but I’d watch the movie no matter who played the part.

But… I have a feeling that Hollywood would give the movie a happy ending… no pun intended… such as saving the heroine from being blown up in space by a nuclear weapon.

Still, it’d be cool to see.

Any indie filmmakers up for the job?  Fan film producers?  Either way I’d see it.
